Since 1997, Scientific Institute San Raffaele added among its significant assets a specific Unit oriented to Information Technology applications in health domain. This Unit, called e-Services for Life and Health, developed since the beginning of its activity different projects, finalized to the delivery of services internally to the hospital infrastructure (person identification systems, process re-engineering) as well as oriented to innovative domains and disciplines. Actually, this area is focused on the release of services to the Citizen and on the management of personalized and constantly updated information.
The Fondazione Centro San Raffaele del Monte Tabor, through the activity of the CeSREM ("Centro Studi San Raffaele Rischi Errori in Medicina"), has joined with other Italian hospitals, in collaboration with the Tribunal of Patient Rights, to the experimentation of the "Safety Card in the medical practice and assistance". Moreover it takes part, together with 9 other regional hospitals in the project "Quality and Health in Lombardia Region, development projects of a system of accreditation for the Excellence in the Healthcare structure of the Lombardia Region ", in collaboration with the Joint Commission International - JCI.
In 5th Framework Programme, Fondazione Centro San Raffaele del Monte Tabor has been the project coordinator of DRIVE (Drug in Virtual Enterprise) IST-12040. DRIVE realized a Pilot integrating the entire pharmaceutical value chain (from pharmaceutical manufacturers to hospital and final user: the patient at the bedside), combining the patient safety and clinical issues with the efficiency of the integrated supply chain, on top of a trusted ICT infrastructure.
In 6th Framework Programme - IST Directorate, Fondazione Centro San Raffaele del Monte Tabor, with e-Services for Life and Health Unit, is coordinating PIPS (Personalized Information Platform for life and health Services), integrated project aimed to design a multichannel/multiportal platform able to release services and information updated and personalized to the Citizen at home and in remote, in her/his everyday life (supermarket, restaurant, hospital, General Practitioner ambulatory, etc.), related to health and nutrition domains. Moreover the e-Services for Life and Health Unit is now involved in other two projects with the European Commission, PRIME that aims to the realization of a multi-sector and large scale-sustainable approach to privacy and identity management, in which FCSR has the role to care about health scenarios, and ANGEL that aims to develop methods and tools for building heterogeneous systems in which Wireless Sensor Networks and traditional communication networks cooperate to monitor and improve the quality of life in common habitats, e.g., home, car and city environment.
