Emmanuel Pigout and Philip Miseldine (SAP Research) presented "Bottom-Up Approach for compliance: The MASTER position" in the occasion of the W3C Workshop on Access Control Application Scenarios organised by PrimeLife. In this paper, a description of an original bottom-up approach developed in the MASTER project is provided which enable a company to create cost effective control processes. The workshop that tool place on November 17 and 18, 2009 in Luxembourg is a part of PrimeLife workshop series and aimed to bring together worldwide research and user communities to explore evolving application scenarios for access control technologies, such as XACML. Results from a number of recent Europena research projects in the grid, cloud computing, and privacy show overlaping use cases for these technologies that extend beyond classical intra-enterprise applications. At the workshop the commonalities of different application scenarios and arising needs for standardisation will be explored. MASTER and PrimeLife are complementary in the field of privacy and data protection aspects in the presence of SOA and advanced web technologies.
